The Eleanor Mason Historical Archives How To Use The Archives Database Hello! Welcome to the website of the Historical Society of the Rockaways. The most important offering here is the Eleanor Mason Historical Archives. Mrs. Mason is the Society's Curator, and for over 30 years has been responsible for the collection and organization of an estimated 50,000 documents - cataloging the people and events of Rockaway Borough and Rockaway Township back to the earliest days of farming and iron mining. In order to make this vast collection more accessible to the public, scholars, and students, we have begun the process of digitizing the documents and adding them to a database. This is an immense job that will take many years to complete. The database is designed for anyone with access to a computer and the internet. Because of legal and privacy issues, open browsing of the database is restricted. However, by following the steps below, we will select records that match your criteria, digitize them, enter them into the database, and then send you a "Key" providing access. Please be patient...this is a slow process! You may wish to take a look at this page - How to Use - which will familiarize you with how to work in the database. Best regards, Step I Step II Step III Disclaimer All materials contained in these Archives are subject to verification. The Historical Society of the Rockaways assumes no responsibility for accuracy.
